In most European countries, donating to a CSOs in another member state may not grant income tax deductibility, creating an imbalance in cross-border philanthropy. The Transnational Giving Europe (TGE) Network is the solution, fostering collaboration across 20 European countries to streamline cross-border donations.
How TGE Works
Tax Advantages: Residents in the 20 participating European countries (both corporations and individuals) can financially support Nonprofit Organizations in other Member States, enjoying the tax benefits provided in their home country. You can find more information here.
Specialized Expertise: TGE specializes in national tax legislation, leveraging the expertise of its members in domestic tax systems and the nonprofit ecosystem.More about each Member State’s tax legislation you can find here.
HIGGS’ collaboration with the TGE Network
HIGGS is the official representative of TGE Network in Greece. Thanks to this collaboration, we are able to:
Accept donations from abroad, helping the donors fully enjoy their tax exemptions, and promote them to the Greek Nonprofits.
Facilitate tax donations from Greek donors who wish to support foreign Nonprofits.
Help the Greek Nonprofits benefit from foreign funds, without having them set up branches abroad.
Strengthen the Civil Society in Greece, by attracting more donors and creating innovative projects in Greece and Europe.
How Nonprofits Can Join TGE
Once your Organization has been approved as an eligible recipient of transnational donations by the TGE Network, you will be able to benefit from charitable benefits from abroad, with tax arrangements provided by our national regulations. At the same time, donors from abroad will have the same tax benefits that they would have if they supported Nonprofits in their homeland.
In order for your Organization to become an official member of the Network, a donor from abroad must have already expressed his/her interest to donate to your Nonprofit. The donor has to be a resident in one of the Member States of the Network.
As long as you reach an agreement with the donor:
You contact HIGGS at tgeo@higgs3.org and the donor contacts the partner representing the Network in his/her country, in order to start the process of registering and accepting the donation.
We inform and guide you in all the processes regarding the submission of the application and some formal documents needed, such as the Nonprofit’s statute, bank account details, annual report of activities, financial reports of previous years, etc.
After submitting the application and the documents, HIGGS and our partners in the TGE Network, certify their validity and then your Organization is accepted as a beneficiary of the Network.
You receive the donation in your bank account.
You can find more information on the process of becoming a beneficiary of the TGE Network here.
If you already have a network of possible donors in European Member States of the TGE Network, we suggest that you inform them about the possibility of sending donations with tax deductibilities, something that will definitely motivate them to contribute to a greater extent.
Process for donors
TGE Network offers the comfort of a network of prominent grant-making foundations, anchored in each of the countries covered, where they have outstanding relationships with most Nonprofits and enjoy the confidence of national authorities. They ensure your contribution is allocated to the foreign charitable Organization you have chosen to support.
HIGGS facilitates the transfer of donations from Greek donors to the Nonprofits of 20 European Member States of the Network, ensuring tax deductions that can reach up to 20%.
If you would like to donate to a Nonprofit in Europe, you should:
Contact HIGGS at info@higgs3.org and express your interest, providing all the necessary information regarding the name of the Nonprofit and the amount you wish to donate.
HIGGS will establish contact with the beneficiary Organization and the partner in the recipient country will inform them of the incoming donation.
If the beneficiary Organization is not yet registered in the TGE Network, they have to do so prior to receiving donations.
If the evaluation is positive, the donor makes the gift to his home-country foundation which then provides the donor with a tax receipt and transfers the gift to the beneficiary Organization.
